ELEC70013 High Performance Analogue ElectronicsLecturer(s): Prof Esther Rodriguez-Villegas; Prof Stepan Lucyszyn Aims
This module is concerned with the design and implementation of high performance analogue integrated circuits and systems, with emphasis on the design of high-frequency circuits for wireless receivers. You will discuss circuit and system-level issues determining the performance of wireless receivers, and transistor-level techniques to implement high performance, fully-integrated wireless receivers will be introduced.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to: 1. Identify and assess the suitability of different receiver architectures for particular system applications 2. Evaluate and identify the important performance parameters for the various building blocks within a wireless receiver, such as noise and linearity 3. Identify, explain and analyse the role of every single device with suitable transistor level implementations of the major building blocks including transconductors and mixers 4. Analyse noise performance and make design decisions of various analogue building blocks
Syllabus
System-level design: Introduction to wireless receiver architectures, system-level specifications; Design techniques: noise analysis and low noise design, high-frequency transistor performance, CMOS and BJT linearisation; Building blocks: integrated continuous-time filters, analogue mixers and multipliers, integrated oscillators; System-level case studies: video/tv receivers; paging receivers.
