ELEC70095 Laboratory Experiments: MSc Commuications and Signal Processing

Lecturer(s): Dr Cong Ling

Aims

This laboratory module aims to foster best practice in experimental work, while supporting the lecture modules and giving practical exposure to real systems. It also aims to prepare students for experimental work of the MSc individual project.

Learning Outcomes

You will complete 5 different experiments for this module. Upon successful completion of this module, you will be able to: 1 Design and implement discrete time filters and evaluate the advantages and drawbacks of different design methodologies 2 Apply the theory of the wavelet transform in image processing applications 3 Analyse the key elements of MIMO communication systems 4 Evaluate and anticipate the performance of algorithms for adaptive signal processing 5 Implement speech coders based on Linear Predictive Coding (LPC) 6 Critically analyse the results and draw appropriate conclusions

Syllabus

Adaptive signal processing and adaptive systems, array communications & processing, speech processing, channel coding with software defined radio, digital filter design, image processing, MIMO-OFDM systems, multi-input multi-output communications, spectral estimation techniques, wavelet transforms versus conventional transforms.
