The individual project is by far the most important single piece of work in the degree programme. It provides the opportunity for you to demonstrate independence and originality, to plan and organise a large project over a long period, and to put into practice some of the techniques you have been taught throughout the degree. Whatever your level of academic achievement so far, you can show your individuality and inspiration in this project. It should be the most satisfying piece of work in your degree. It is worth 40% of the final year marks.

On successfully completing this module, you should be able to:
1. plan and manage a project over an extended period
2. take personal responsibility of your work
3. tackle open-ended work and apply prior theoretical knowledge to practical situations
4. critically review information from a wide range of sources
5. adopt appropriate analytical, computational and /or experimental methods to meet your project objectives
6. communicate the outcomes of the project work effectively and accurately in both a written and oral format

Content varies annually based on project topics proposed by students and staff, and student preferences.
